In their final game of the regular season, the UBC Thunderbirds will host the University of Victoria Vikes on Saturday, October 23.e at 1 p.m. PST at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Center with the possibility of finishing first in Western Canada.

The T-Birds are ranked No.5 in U SPORTS and lead Canada West with four points ahead of Lethbridge and five points ahead of the third-placed Vikes. With a victory over Victoria on Saturday afternoon, the Birds would secure first place in the conference ahead of the Final Four playoffs. UBC’s offense continued to fire on all cylinders and dominated Canada West with 197 points scored – 73 more than the second-best Vikes (124) – while Victoria allowed the second-lowest number of points in the conference (41).

“We play well as a team,” said UBC head coach Dean Murten. “We have great individuals, but everyone recognizes that the game is not won by individuals. It’s a team effort and everyone is starting to trust each other more. We have some big rocks than we do. have to clean up – one of them being discipline. “

As reigning conference champions, the Birds will be struggling against their provincial rivals who have won three straight games since losing 31-15 to the Birds in the regular season opener on September 19.e in Victoria.

“UVic has a very strong team and plays a similar style to us,” said Murten. “They also have a lot of threats that we need to contain. They have several outstanding domestic players who can change a game, so we need to be disciplined and prepared for the toughest challenge this season so far.”
